Monumental Sports & Entertainment was already getting into the arena football business with the expansion Washington Valor in 2017, but the league announced Monday Monumental will own a second expansion team starting at the same time.

The as of yet unnamed team will play at Baltimore's Royal Farms Arena and will be both the fifth team in the Arena Football League and the fifth professional sports franchise owned by Monumental.  Monumental's Capitals (NHL), Mystics (WNBA), Valor (AFL) and Wizards (NBA) all play at Verizon Center in Washington.

Despite being the second league team owned by Monumental, the Baltimore team may be better positioned heading into the season.  While the Valor will have to compete against Monumental's three other teams for dates and fans and also Georgetown basketball at the arena alone, the only other tenant at Royal Farms Arena is the Baltimore Blast of the Major Arena Soccer League.
